Health Academy SECAHEC is collaborating with the community of Walsenburg to develop a “health academy” in Huerfano County. The program includes exposing students and community members to health career opportunities and training students for entry-level health care positions; preparing students to pursue secondary education; offering grow your own programs and creating opportunities for citizens to attain meaningful employment; developing a “promising practice” for replication in other rural communities; providing a library to promote health career development; increasing awareness of relationships between personal health, healthy choices and career success; and teaching, mentoring and modeling by local health care professionals.
