Reports to: the Executive Director
Summary: The Associate Executive Director (AED) provides program support for education, select communications, and specific professional practice programs under Colorado Nurses Association. This position will oversee Approval Board, CE Provider Unit Programs, and Professional Development offerings under Colorado Nurses Association. The AED also represents the association at the request of the Executive Director in external meetings and venues. This position will serve as the primary coordinator for the Colorado Nurse publication and will assist with writing for other communication modalities for member communications and external marketing.
Essential Functions:
1. Provides oversight of education programs including Approval Board, Continuing Education Provider Unit, and professional development/education offerings under CNA
a. Ensures program compliance under ANCC guidelines for all programs
b. Assists potential providers in all phases of the application process
c. Direct responsibility for accreditation prep and application under ANCC requirements
d. Promotes and markets education programs to external groups
e. Coordinates development of marketable professional development offerings
f. Directs planning for convention education programs
2. Serves as the lead association contact for education Issues
a. Attends Board of Nursing meetings for education Issues
b. Represents CNA at external education workgroup and policy meetings
c. Serves as a lead resource on education issues for the profession
d. Facilitates relationships with all schools of nursing in Colorado
3. Lead for specific professional practice issues, assisting task forces and committees with action plans
a. Mentoring – works with established committee on a mentoring initiative
b. Patient Safety
c. Prevention and Wellness
d. Professional Issues as assigned – immunizations, safe lifting, as examples
4. Coordinates Colorado Nurse submissions quarterly and assists in other communications on behalf of the association
5. Promotes and represents the association externally
a. Public presentations on the association and professional topics
b. Represents the ED as assigned in his/her absence for meetings
c. Attends delegated external workgroup/policy meetings pertinent to areas of work responsibility
6. Performs other duties as assigned – committee meeting support, convention preparation, process check payments, and administrative duties.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience – Master’s Degree in Nursing required. Experience in educational role and setting preferred. Strong familiarity with educational standards with a preference for knowledge of ANCC accreditation standards. Experience with professional writing and formal presentations.
Schedule – Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, daytime hours negotiable. Some work on weekends and after hours for evening meetings is required periodically.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – knowledge of professional practice issues affecting the profession. Knowledge of diverse nursing roles and major policy issues for the profession. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Strong writing and presentation skills are requisite. Computer skills required – Word, Power Point, etc. Willing to learn and explore alternate modes of communication – Facebook, Twitter, etc. Ability to work with groups effectively – team building skills, effective communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with members, staff, and the external public.
Physical Requirements - must be able to travel independently for external presentations. Ability to lift and carry approximately 5-10 pounds. Must have personal mode of transportation to travel for external meetings and presentations.
