The Colorado Clinical Placement Clearinghouse

(Click here for a direct access to Clearinghouse)

The Colorado Clinical Placement Clearinghouse began as a pilot demonstration in 2006 to develop an internet-based system for coordinating the clinical placement of Colorado nursing students.  Colorado's 6,000 nursing students need to secure nearly 2 million hours of clinical experience each year - a formidable and increasingly difficult task. The Clearinghouse has grown from the initial 10 clinical sites and 24 schools of nursing to the current partnership of 48 active clinical partners representing 117 Clinical Sites and 39 Active education partners representing 52 campuses statewide (Includes: CNA and Graduate Nursing Programs).

The Clearinghouse contains the only aggregate evidence and trends related to placements from 2005 through 2010 for school leadership and public decision-makers in Colorado. The system allows for tracking and a more coordinated and effective utilization of available clinical training opportunities. As a result of the platform, there was an increase in total number of clinical placement hours by 21% during 2008. Currently the platform supports over 900,000 clinical placement hours.
There are currently 14 other states using the same clinical placement database system, StudentMaxTM and Colorado is the only statewide platform that includes all levels of nursing education and all types of clinical settings (including acute care, long-term care, ambulatory care, hospice, public health, wellness centers and simulation.)
