COAC Strategic Advisory Committee Projects

Strategic Advisory Committee #3 - Story Telling as a Way to Cultivate Self-Compassion

The Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence, along with hundreds of community members, lead the Colorado Action Coalition (COAC). There are four Strategic Advisory Committees tasked with planning the Future of Nursing Recommendations implementation in Colorado over the next decade. Strategic Action Committee (SAC) #3 is leading the charge on the Nurse Wellbeing recommendation. They have launched a research study: Storytelling as a Way to Cultivate Self-Compassion.

Strategic Advisory Committee #7 - Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Guide for Nurse Educators

At the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence, we believe that advancing health outcomes starts in the classroom. This evidence-based guide—developed by Strategic Advisory Committee #7 under the leadership of the Colorado Action Coalition (COAC)—was created to support nurse educators and academic institutions in preparing future nurses to understand and address the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH).

This resource offers practical tools, strategies, and recommendations to help nursing programs integrate SDOH into curricula and training. Its goal is simple yet urgent: to ensure that nurses are equipped to meet the complex needs of individuals and communities and to expand access to health for all.

The Problem

The United States spends over $3.5 trillion annually on health care while underperforming on nearly every metric. Our nursing workforce needs vast improvements so that nurses are retained, valued as individuals, and able to address the unique needs of each patient, community, and population group so that all can flourish.

The Solution

Systems that educate, pay, employ, and empower nurses need to permanently remove barriers, value nurses' contributions, prepare nurses to lead and inspire innovation and foster understanding of the uniqueness each person brings to their care plan.

The Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence and hundreds of community members lead the Colorado Action Coalition (COAC). Four Strategic Advisory Committees are tasked with planning the Future of Nursing Recommendations implementation in Colorado over the next decade. Implementing the Recommendations will take a village.

We Want YOU to help us build a supportive and dynamic workforce to improve the lives of all Coloradans.

This is an excellent opportunity to have your voice, perspective, expertise, and interests heard and gain a feeling of community, maintain progression of professional development, and increase satisfaction by working on mission-driven/passion/values-based work.
