Nurse Refresher Courses
Frequently Asked Questions (Lite Courses)
What is the difference between the Nurse Refresher Course and the Nurse Refresher Lite Course?
In contrast to our Refresher course, our Refresher Lite offers a
much more condensed review for nurses who do not need a full Refresher course for re-licensure. This course offers a comprehensive review of systems and a refresh of medical-surgical nursing knowledge. Additionally, the Center now offers 40 Nursing Continuing Professional Development Contact Hours* as required by the Board of Nursing for re-licensure of those out of nursing practice 2-5 years.
* The Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Colorado Nurses Association, accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
How do I know if the Refresher Lite Course is appropriate for my situation?
The Refresher Lite courses are ideal for students who have had an expired license for more than 2 years and less than 5 years and are required to complete up to 40 contact hours of continuing education per the Board of Nursing rules. If you are unsure if the Refresher Lite course is applicable for your situation or if you are looking for re-licensure from a state other than Colorado, reach out to the Nurse Refresher Team at [email protected] for help.
What is the Nurse Refresher Lite Course?
Our Nurse Refresher Lite Courses are online, independent study
courses and can be completed from anywhere, as long as you have access to a computer or mobile device with a stable internet connection.
How much do the Nurse Refresher Lite Courses cost?
The tuition for the RN Refresher Lite Course is $1,100.00 and
the LPN Refresher Lite Course tuition is $750.00. The course tuition covers access to our Learning Management System platform: Moodle, for lessons and quizzes; access to NovEx virtual simulation case scenarios and lessons (RN’s) or Evolve HESI PN Case Studies (LPN’s), and 40 nursing continuing professional development contact hours (formerly called CEU’s).
Do I need to get a textbook?
No, purchase of a textbook is not required for Refresher Lite
courses. You may order a textbook as a supplemental resource if you choose to do so, but it is not needed to be successful in the course.
How long will the course take to complete?
On average, students should be able to complete the course in
three to four months depending on how much coursework is completed weekly. Students will have access to online material for 6-months and are expected to complete the course within a 6-month time frame.
Is there a final exam?
There is no final exam required for the Nurse Refresher Lite
course completion.
Am I required to participate in clinicals after completing the Refresher Lite Course?
No, the clinical practicum is not included in the Refresher Lite
Course and is not required by the Colorado Board of Nursing for nurses whose licenses have been inactive for 2-5 years. The Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence offers an option to participate in the Virtually Simulated Clinicals Program (for an additional fee) for interested registered nurses looking for clinical experiences in a safe environment. If you are interested in participating in a virtually simulated clinical experience or have additional questions, please contact [email protected].
If you are applying for re-licensure outside of Colorado and would like additional information, we encourage you to contact our team via phone, text, or email.
